The classic Chinese (Chinese 文言文, Pinyin Wényánwén, literary language '), also called "Wenyan" (Chinese 文言, Pinyin Wenyan), in the strict sense refers to the written and probably spoken language of China during the Warring States Period (5th-3. century v. Chr.). In a broader sense, this term also includes used until the 20th century Chinese written language.
