Cocos nucifera (Palmae or Arecaceae i.e. belonging to the palm family). It is the only species in the genus Cocos, known monotypical genus. The endocarp of the fruit, with the three indentations resembles a monkey face, which is called in Portuguese coco. The palm can be up to 30 m are high and have 4-6 meter long leaves. The old leaves fall off, but the blade bases remain and form as the strain. The strain is a trunk since it is not produced in the usual manner of a tree, but by stacking the blade bases. [2]
