In 1885 in Leipzig he earned his Dr. phil. He was corresponding member of the German Botanical Society.

Reiche (spanish Carlos Reiche) was a professor in Mexico; He also worked at the National Museum of Santiago de Chile. Reiche studied the floras of Mexico and Chile. He wrote articles to many plant families for "The natural plant families" of Adolf Engler and Carl Prantl in the 1st edition (1890-1897 ),

Reichea (now Myrcianthes) was named from the myrtle family, Reichenecactus from the cactus family and Reicheella of the family Caryophyllaceae [1]
